C12E 10 June 2010, 15:30 - 15:45 Novel sogel coatings for aluminium alloys: properties & applications

Novel coatings products based on sol-gel chemistry and nanotechnology are developed for the use on Al and Mg parts. The presentation shows basicalprinciples of synthesis route and chemistry of inorganic-organic hybrid polymers. The products provide excellent corrosion protection with thin layers and without the use of heavy metals such as Cr (VI). Additional properties can be included such as easy-to-clean properties due to hydrophilic and/or hydrophobic surfaces and protective coatings with reflow properties.
Some samples of industrial applications were presented.
